Academic Strengths
- 2007 McLean’s ranked University of Victoria first among comprehensive universities;
- Lead all Canadian comprehensive universities in size and number of medical and science grants per faculty member;
- Thirty-three faculty members hold Canada Research Chairs, five have received Governor General's Literature Awards, and 41 are members of the Royal Society of Canada.
- The library has 1,600,000 volumes and 1,900,000 items in microform. There are 12,000 current periodical subscriptions including 2,600 e-journals. The Music and Audio division currently holds 49,000 records, tapes, compact discs; 32,000 scores; and 6,500 films & videos. There are 137 on staff including 26 librarians
