Comprehensive - takes pupils regardless of ability (although a school with a recognised specialism in a prescribed subject may select up to 10% of its intake by aptitude, and comprehensives which have historically selected some pupils by ability can continue to do so). |

Modern - a school in a selective area, which takes pupils regardless of ability. |
